My Background

My name is Giulio and i was Born in Cesena (FC), ITALY. I grew up in the neibrought of San Martino in Fiume,where i currently live and where I have developed my interest in communications. My parents gave me 2 olds valve shortwave receivers when I was nine years old. I was fascinated by all the radio signals coming in from all over the world. I spent a lot of time stringing up antennas, trying to pull in weak stations from countries on the other side of the world and in particular from the USA. Back in those days, SSB was coming still very popular on the amateur bands, and I spent many hours listening to the hams on the 75/80 and 20 metre bands. I wasn't quite sure what Ham Radio was all about, but I knew I wanted to get involved.

I was still very interested in radio communications, and when I meet local ham named Giancarlo Spinelli  (I4UJB) the president of my local ham club in the 1990 i quickly signed up to catch my first callsign (IW4CMD). After some mounth , i was on the AIR , but my first attraction was for the digital communication , and in the top for the "PACKET RADIO". since that time , my electronic's applications was directed to this kind of communications, i remember the great times , where in the nigth , i and my friend Giampy IK4GRI , test the packet radio with the great an glory home computer called COMMODORE 64 with DIGICOM software!!!!!

After 13 years ,in the 2003,  I've UPGRADE my licence to ORDINARY or "A" Class , I found the Morse Code a bit difficult. I had no trouble learning the code -- I just couldn't copy in my head. I had to write down each and every letter. That limited my speed. I could recognize the individual letters at speeds much greater than 8 to 9 words per minute, but I struggled to write down the characters, and could barely copy at 9 words per minute. I was determined to get my license, and kept working on the code over the next couple of years. I finally felt I was ready to take the test. In June of 2003 I passed the "A" Class exam at the ministry of communication office in Bologna ITALY I received my license in the mail on July 17st, 2003-- a day I will always remember!

My Interests

I am interested in almost every aspect of Ham Radio, but I especially enjoy to home made my devices, and talking with my friends in the US and all over the world, using the great ham VoIp called ECHOLINK, i think , the future of ham radio tecnologies!!. When I'm not talking, I enjoy building antennas and listening on amateur and public service frequencies. My favourite ham bands are 10 metres, 6 metres, 20 metres, and 80/160 metres, although due to antenna limitations and propagation, I have done most of my operating on 20 metres over the years. My favourite mode is digital mode and SSB (single sideband). I have always owned some kind of radio for 2 metres and 75 centimetres and 23 cm; however, I mostly listen on those bands.From early of the 2004 , i and my friend Giampy IK4GRI and Davide IW4EIY, works in WIFI application with more and more results. The great tecnology of IK4GRI have developed the RF signal application with antennas , modes to the AP and other, the great software management based on LINUX applications are devoloper by Davide IW4EIY , the builder of our FERMNET local intranet server , the sistem where running the DB of our net

In the last year another grear "RF man" has joined to our group,  he is Roberto IW4CVV , with this Radioelectronic's experience all is possible!!

I'm interested to all is electronics automation , and now, my applications are envolved for APRS and weather data acquire

In addition to Ham Radio, I do have some other interests. I love to travel. I've been to many state in US for  pleasure, and never get tired of it. I'm always ready for the next trip whith My wife Gisella and my doughter Beatrice, for this , i've also an EXTRA CLASS US LICENZE callsign: AB2VY (last KC2OTB) (Thanks to my great friend KC4VPC Ben ), that i'll use when i'll be inside of the US
